Conservation

• Assessment of damaged stained glass, leads, bowing or leaking.
• Condition report including photographing of windows.
• Inspection of ironwork.

• Removal and re-leading.
• Recording and archiving all stages.
• Re-matching and repainting of broken or missing painted glass.
• The use of conservation techniques where possible to conserve existing glass (such as edge-bonding and paint consolidation and plating).
• Storage of replaced glass.

Great care is taken at every stage to protect valuable heritage and to preserve as much as possible of original work. It is, however, acknowledged that aesthetic appreciation needs to be borne in mind and that the devotional purpose of glass in churches means that the visual integrity of a work needs to be maintained, and so where serious damage occurs restoration of an original work is necessary.
